Easy Ways to Afford a Professional Wedding Video

Justifying expenses for one day of use can be a tough pill to swallow for anyone planning a wedding, and a professional wedding video might be something that’s tempting to do on the cheap or cut altogether. But here’s the thing -- a video will give you years of enjoyment for you and your loved ones; it can also help you better remember the details of your wedding that you forgot due the whirlwind that is your wedding day. So don’t be so quick to slam on the breaks when it comes to a professional wedding video. Instead, try following these easy tips to help make your wedding video more affordable.

  1. Save Money on the Wedding Details That No One Will Notice

Your wedding is absolutely the most special event of your life, and you deserve for every piece to feel special. That being said, there are a lot of little details that you may have been told are important, but in the end won’t add much to the overall experience. The cost of these small items can also add up fast. For every purchase you should be able to answer “yes” to at least one of the following questions:

  • Will this be memorable or well-utilized? For example, no one will see your designer cake knife (that you will literally only use one time). Or participate in superfluous activities like lawn games (due to hot or bad weather and heels!).

  • Will this add to the comfort of my guests? Your guests have traveled from all over and you want them to feel comfortable and appreciated. Catering, venue, and drinks are all things you should absolutely put money and thought into. The late night snack station that everyone is too full to touch? Maybe not.

  • Will this greatly affect the overall atmosphere of my wedding? You should feel proud of the event you are throwing and feel like it is a reflection of you and your fiance. Flowers, music, venue, and your dress are absolutely important. Just be sure to edit your ideas into what will add real impact to the atmosphere and what is just excess.

2. Find a Professional Videographer or Production Company That Offers a Payment Plan

We all know that “cash is king,” and wedding planning can mean many streams of cash flowing out at the same time. Many professional videographers will understand this world of cash flow very well. If they don’t offer a payment plan upfront, don’t be afraid to negotiate. It’ll make things much easier on your wallet to not pay in one lump sum, especially when bigger ticket items, like the venue, often require a large deposit upfront.

3. Book as Early as You Can

Booking early with anyone can be a little tough psychologically, but in conjunction with a payment plan, booking early will not only give you extra time to save up for payments, but it will also save you from incurring any rush fees. What’s more, many companies will offer deals for booking in advance, or even discounts for paying upfront should you want to go that route instead. Besides these reasons, booking early will help ensure you get the professional videographers you truly want instead of settling for whomever is available. In the end, having the video you really want is the best way to avoid buyer’s remorse.
